One Man’s Experience!

This is a timeless video production by Mike of Mike’s TV. He participated the standard quick one-day tour, it seems, and despite the fact he only saw a small portion of what is available to see and do on Bohol he certainly had a good time.

Sit back and enjoy a quick Bohol “mini-tour” in only six minutes.

Secret Places: KaiBob’s Burgers

It’s almost a secret except to those folks who have already discovered it. Yep! American-Style hamburgers are alive and flourishing on Bohol!

The locals in the area rave about the burgers, but the real endorsements come from members of the International community, particularly tourists visiting Bohol who discover a cuisine once thought impossible to find in the Philippines — making this site a “must stop” location for anyone visiting and touring Bohol.

Just click on the map for larger more clear map.

Our favorite” The Teriyaki-Pineapple Burger. Yum. Burgerlicious. This is particularly important as a “take-out” location so you can text your order ahead and have it waiting for you to take-out and enjoy while in transit to your next site — Chocolate Hills, Panglao Island, the beach resorts — anywhere…

The french fries. Did we mention those? Well… these are fries rivaling the best of the best top french fry outlets in the world.

Easy to find in Baclayon but rumor control tells us that in October, 2011 a new higher profile location will be opening in Tagbilaran City as well.

Simply quoting happy burger eaters: These burgers are “Burgerlicious!”

Weather Update

We have reported many times that Bohol is an island protected naturally by surrounding islands in the central Visayas in the Philippines. This was recently evidenced over the past thrthree days by Typhoon Pedring which hit the Manila area fairly hard but resulted only is some moderate rainfall on Bohol. Our good friends at Typhoon2000 and also the Typhoon Preparedness Center at the Naga College Foundation have released this information concerning Pedring as well as updated information on the new Tropical Storm Nalgae:

SOUTHWEST MONSOON (HABAGAT) NOW DOMINATES THE WEATHER SITUATION HERE IN THE PROVINCE . STORM WARNING SIGNAL NUMBER TWO (2) HAS BEEN LOWERED TO NUMBER ONE (1).

*THIS WILL BE THE LAST AND FINAL CAMSUR ADVISORY ON TYPHOON PEDRING.

The following satellite image from the Japan Meteorological Agency shows Pedring as it passes past the Philippines and also indicates the early formation of Nalgae in the Pacific:

Miracle Water at Our Lady of Assumption Church – Dauis

Now here is an interesting destination: The Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Dauis, Bohol.

In our opinion the real gold in a tourist destination is what the locals know.

So to understand the importance of this magnificent and wondrous church is to know the history and culture of the local people who share in its rich heritage.

For approximately 500 years or longer the Bohol islanders have battled the fierce marauding pirates from Borneo and Mindanao called Moro Pirates or Camucones who regularly attacked, sieged and sacked local islanders to loot their treasures and to rape their women and kidnap many wives and daughters for their harems.

The Blood compact was sealed with blood between the Spanish and Bohol Chieftain Sikatuna on March 16, 1565 allowing the people of Bohol to join with the Spanish to jointly protect each other from the ravages of the Moro Pirates and to establish the presence of Catholic churches for converting the population to Christianity and governance under Spanish rule.

As a result many beautiful and elegant Catholic cathedrals and churches were built across the island, but the one of particular significance is the Our Lady of Assumption Church located near the foot of the bridge that connects Panglao Island from the mainland is the fifth to be erected on the site. Founded by Jesuits Diego de Ayala and Joseph Gregorio, the church is dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption which is believed to posses miraculous powers.

According to legend, when the town of Dauis was invaded by Moro pirates, the people locked themselves inside the church until they ran out of provisions and water. A water well miraculously appeared at the foot of the altar that saved the villagers. It was said that the taste of the water is sweet even though the church is located a few meters from the sea. It is also said that the miracle water from the well has healing powers.

Ask your tour guide to include this destination on your itinerary and be sure to bring a bottle for some of the miracle water.

Budget Vacation?

Welcome to the wonderful world of BoholGold.

Welcome to the wonderful tropical paradise island of Bohol.

Safe. Secure. Fun.

Typhoon Protection

Almost completely typhoon and tsunami proof. This island paradise is protected from the East and Northeast by Leyte, the West and Northwest by Cebu, and the south by Mindanao. Typhoon are unknown by the locals who live here. We have interviewed several local elderly natives (70s and 80s) in Southern Bohol who tell us that while there are occasional heavy tropical rains here — they have personally never experienced a typhoon here.

The Gold of Bohol is truly the people. Friendly, industrious and proud of their Boholano heritage. The island is safe and secure for tourists as the crime rate is extremely low and the PNP and Philippine Special Forces have bases here.

The island province is proud of its pristine white sandy beaches and natural habitat areas. Sight seeing is accorded by way of natural caves, Chocolate Hills, beach resorts, wildlife preserves such as Tarsiers and Butterflies, Whale and Dolpin watching. Snorkeling and diving opportunities are abundant here.

Most of all it is very affordable. A little bit of everything for everybody.

Come join us and enjoy.
